Good Ol' Boredom

"When will these brain cells cut me some slack?"
This song is the soundtrack for the past year of my life. I saw the birth of my daughter and got a new job (actually went back to an old profession). Lots of change induced stress, but it was all worth it. The non-stop, 6 and a half minute drum ostinato is the perseverance necessary to make it through this past year. It made it to the end, and so did I.
"And all we want is anything that'll take our minds off this non-stop anxiety, for a time".

Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely

One of the few songs, I sing along too. But only when I am alone.

I'm curious to know exactly how you are / I keep my distance but that distance is too far
It reassures me just to know that you're okay / But I don't want you to go on needing me this way

And I don't want to know if you are lonely / Don't want to know if you are less than lonely

Don't want to know if you are lonely / Don't want to know, don't want to know

The day you left me, left me feeling oh so bad / Still I'm not sure about all the doubts we had

From the beginning we both knew it wouldn't last / Decisions have been made the die has been cast

The phone is ringing and the clock says four A.M. / If it's your friends, well I don't want to hear from them

Please leave your number and a message at the tone /Or you can just go on and leave me alone

Heavy Wood

Enchanting stuff.

Don Ross, is a Canadian fingerstyle guitarist noted for the emotion and intensity of his playing as well as his use of extended technique.
Ross's music borrows from bluesjazzfolk and classical music creating a style that he describes as "heavy wood". Ross is the only person to twice win the U.S.National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship (1988 and 1996).
Bruce Cockburn writes, "Nobody does what Don Ross does with an acoustic guitar. He takes the corners so fast you think he's going to roll, but he never loses control." [via Wikipedia]

You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore

Fan asks Zappa to play Allman Brothers' 'Whipping Post', Zappa starts singing 'Montana', and then....

It is a song about a man who intends to go to Montana and grow dental floss and become a dental floss tycoon.

This version featured on You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 2, ("Whipping Floss") is an example of when he did this. Before the song starts, a fan asks them to play The Allman Brothers Band's song "Whipping Post." Frank jokes with the audience that they do not know the tune, Frank (after playing a couple of jokes on the guy and the audience) chooses to play "Montana" instead, yet he alters the lyrics. The end of the song is a very long guitar solo, that around 9:55 turns into some kind of funk jam, and finally segues into a short version of "Big Swifty."

Confutatis Maledictis

The Requiem Mass in D minor (K. 626) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was composed inVienna in 1791 and left unfinished at the composer's death. A completion by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who had anonymously commissioned the piece for a requiem Mass to commemorate the February 14 anniversary of his wife's death.

With levels of deceptions and secrets, many myths emerged with respect to the circumstances of the work's completion. One series of myths surrounding the Requiem involves the role Antonio Salieri played in the commissioning and completion of the Requiem and in Mozart's death generally. While the most recent retelling of this myth is Peter Shaffer's playAmadeus and the movie made from it, it is important to note that the source of misinformation was actually a 19th century play byAlexander PushkinMozart and Salieri, which was turned into an opera by Rimsky-Korsakov and subsequently used as the framework for Amadeus

Confutatis maledictis, flammis acribus addictis, voca me cum benedictus.
Oro supplex et acclinis, cor contritum quasi cinis, gere curam mei finis.

When the accused are confounded, and doomed to flames of woe,
call me among the blessed. I kneel with submissive heart,
my contrition is like ashes, help me in my final condition.

Me and a Gun

5am
Friday morning, Thursday night, Far from sleep
I'm still up and driving, Can't go home, obviously
So I'll just change direction, Cause they'll soon konw where I live
And I wanna live

Got a full tank and some chips, It was me and a gun
And a man on my back, And I sang "holy holy" as he buttoned down his pants
You can laugh, It's kind of funny things you think
at times like these, Like I haven't seen Barbados
So I must get out of this

Yes I wore a slinky red thing, Does that mean I should spread
For you, your friends your father, Mr. Ed

Me and a gun, and a man, On my back
But I haven't seen Barbados
So I must get out of this

Yes I wore a slinky red thing, Does that mean I should spread
For you, your friends your father, Mr. Ed
And I know what this means, Me and Jesus a few years back
Used to hang and he said, "It's your choice babe just remember
I don't think you'll be back in 3 days time, So you choose well"
Tell me what's right, Is it my right to be on my stomach, of Fred's Seville

Me and a gun, and a man, On my back
But I haven't seen Barbados
So I must get out of this

And do you know Carolina, Where the biscuits are soft and sweet
These things go through your head, When there's a man on your back
And you're pushed flat on your stomach
It's not a classic cadillac

Me and a gun, and a man, On my back
But I haven't seen Barbados
So I must get out of this

Giant Robot is Giant

Some time, when you were a kid you came across a TV show that had giant robots fighting monsters, aliens or even other giant robots.

You fantasized about commandeering one of those. Experiencing that power. Saving the world.

Letting your courage transcend physical dimensions and be what it should be.
